GOALS ACHIEVED! A TEAM GPA OF 3.71

Updated: Feb 10, 2021

There were a lot of great achievements in the #FalconFootballFamily. But none of them are as significant as our team GPA.

You would think the first league title in 25 years for Scripps Ranch High School would be Goal #1. It wasn't. How about being 12-0, going to the schools first-ever CIF San Diego Section Championship? Nope.

Our top priority and number one goal was a team GPA of 3.6. So when we found out they reached a 3.71, there was a complete loss of words. They did it. They knew what they wanted, they knew what it takes to get it. And they did it!

The look on their faces was surreal. But watching a grown man's eyes fill with tears, trying to get the lump out of my chest to share the good news hopefully spoke to the importance of it all.

CREATE A CULTURE OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

The team grade point average represents a lot of things. But first and most important, it re-established the fact that football is game. Life is real. And if we as coaches can teach the kids about priorities, commitment, hard work, discipline and team, they can achieve on and off the field.

Real coaches are "Coaches for Life." Teach them life skills. Teach them how to get to the next level. And if they listen, and they learn what it takes, they will continue to achieve, hopefully for the rest of their lives.

What is your goal? What will you settle for?
